I have watched slice-of-life dramas before but nothing like a fantasy historical mix. And I have to admit I definitely liked this one. How did I stumble upon it? Well thanks to YouTube, it was recommending me a clip from the drama and I saved it to watch later. I happened to see the watch-later list of mine waiting for me. And well the rest was an amazing watching experience. Chinese dramas for one, have a really slow pace, they dig into the world and character building and reach climax a bit slowly. Sometimes it’s unnecessary to drag the story and sometimes the story needs more elements. I actually wanted there to be more episodes of this drama or maybe a season 2 would have sufficed but oh well , we’ll see. This drama aired in 2018, and shows a traditional setting, old era when people were always at war. The setting was really beautiful. The imagery was done well. The CGI did kinda make me cringe at first but it wasn’t overdone so I was okay with it. The flow was especially well. And the actors and actresses should be applauded for their outstanding performance in portraying those characters. The story revolves around the fate of two people and an imperial palace . This palace is nothing ordinary with people always plotting, always after the throne, always backstabbing. But what brought the two people together is rather interesting. Be warned there are spoilers ahead. Tianing won after overthrowing another empire. The emperor dies later on leaving his consorts and sons the emperor Tian wei, and long Feiye. Well Feiye actually dies but no one knows and a man from the rival empire takes the role. It becomes quite interesting as Tian wei is actually afraid of Feiye’s power but for this very reason Tian wei’s mother marries Feiye to Han Yunxi, a doctor and a poison expert. Now there are a lot of divisions in the palace itself. I won’t spoil that but too many mysteries and too many plots. I personally felt long tianmoemperor’s son was kind of weak, but his brother was no good either. In the end tianmo did actually do great I think. Better than Tianqing at least. Feiye was never after the throne . I loved his character. The most cold, and calculating prince disguised as someone else whose only weakness was the poison expert Yunxi. His acting was brilliant. The actor did a brilliant job. Feiye and yunxi’s moments were cute and lovely. I think people would dislike how cold stone faced he is in the start , or how he distances himself from Yunxi and others to protect them, but you have to understand his point of view. I didn’t at all hate his character because he needed to do that. It’s exactly what made it all so sad. The second lead’s acting was quite good too and who can’t say He isn’t handsome , hell even Feiye’s assistant was handsome and Feiye’s brother too. I would like to take a moment to explain the ending since it confused many people. I think episode 48 should have been final . But episode 49 explained it further and still was episode 48. stay warned of the spoilers No Yunxi doesn’t die. Well she doesn’t in the novel as far as I know. And no yunxi’s bracelet couldn’t have saved her mother because she didn’t have the bracelet when she fell down the cliff while yunxi had it when she stabbed herself. I guess the episode showed how the bracelet extracted its life force and put it in Yunxi. As for who saved Gu Qishao, I think it was Yuze based on the scene. So in the end she is actually there with prince Qin in the field while Gu Qishao doesn’t really know. But alas writers cut a few parts of this same episode and made it look like an alternate ending where Yunxi dies. It’s up to you viewers to choose the ending you want. Epsidode 49 or 50tho 48 is the last rest are extra. Now that this is explained I can move onto gush on how cute Tang Li and Ninjiang were. I absolutely loved Consort Yi and how she starts to treat Yunxi as her own daughter. Hu Bin actually doesn’t look his age haha. That Beili Minxiang was annoying but alas that was because the actress portrayed it good enough to be hated. Xi feng was cute with Zhuyu. Doctor Han was also great as soon as you learn his story you won’t hate him. As for poison master , well
idk I have mixed feelings. But the emperor’s advisor was loathesome lol. Empress Dowager was also the cruelest , she basically caused the havoc in the harem. Consort Qing was clever as well , but in the end she develops feelings for the Emperor. I was actually expecting a huge fight in the end but I guess this much did do well. Because it was light hearted and I absolutely loved the characters. It actually gave me blues after I ended it. I enjoyed each episode slowly because I knew I’d not want the series to end. Watch Legend of Yunxi Read Novel Poison genius consort HistĂłria Atuação/Elenco Musical Voltar a ver Esta resenha pode conter spoilers Since I've loved historical Chinese dramas so far, I tried to look for other high rated or underrated dramas and I came across this one. The reviews were good so I gave it a try and boy, I wasn't disappointed. This drama for me is a story follows Han Yun Xi Jung Jin Yi, a poison doctor who suddenly had to marry the king's subordinate Long Fei Ye Zhang Zhe Han, I think he was a duke in the story just because the king distrusts him and he thinks that him marrying someone ugly would distract him from any political aspirations. She is then given the title of royal consort and even hired by the empress dowager to spy on Fei Ye so basically they didn't like him to be powerful. The story starts from there and sometimes it makes me laugh on how the duke's character is kind of too serious? And like all leads, when the male lead is serious, the female lead usually is optimistic and animated. The start cohabiting and live as a married couple in name and eventually they start to fall for each other. I liked all the other side characters in the story. Sometimes quite annoyed at the 2nd male lead Gu Qi Shao Yalkun Merxat though. He was the kind of second lead that I wouldn't ship with the female lead. He played his character so convincingly that I hated the character, good job. The thing with these kinds of dramas is that politics will always be a major part of a historical drama and that's a fact. The way it's executed however is the most important thing and would be and advantage if executed well. There was a good amount of politics, drama, romance, and comedy in the story and I liked it. I think this fantasy/historical drama did just that. The ending though is a bit confusing. Though there had 2 endings, kind of a choose your own adventure series. The ending raised so many questions after me being sad at what I thought was their had no problems with the cast because they carried out their characters well. I hated who I need to be hated and empathized who I need to empathize. But ohmygod. The leads. Jung Jin Yi and Zhang Zhe Han are OOZING WITH CHEMISTRY. I'm not sure if this was an underrated drama but if it were, please do watch this. They look so good together! Zhang Zhe Han looks like he was made to wear historical costumes. He looks so good in it. I cannot stress enough how great their chemistry was. It really was. MUSICOne of those Chinese dramas where I appreciated the OST. This may be a low budget drama but they definitely did it right. There was recall with the song and I even added the songs in my VALUEDefinitely yes. For their chemistry, yes. And especially for the pretty, pretty Zhang Zhe Han. Love him. Esta resenha foi Ăștil para vocĂȘ? Dropped 27/48 Gemu no Neko3 people found this review helpful Story Acting/Cast Music Rewatch Value No real suspense - can't take the characters seriously First of all, I dropped it after dragging myself through the drama since about episode has become so I likedYunxi is a lively, vibrant and forgiving character. The actress carried the show for me and made me watch on. In the beginning I didn't like her for several reasons, but either I've gotten used to it or she outgrew those reasons a male lead finally has some expressions after that many episodes. He is costumes are nice, they did a fine job with interior decorations. The rooms were crafted well. I like the way they started to weave in Dr. Gu's character, they managed to be a little more subtle about it. What I dislikedThe sound effects/ musicOmg. Who commited that crime? I'm not talking about the Intro and Outro songs, I skipped was just... NOISE. HUGE noise. When they wanted to add suspension or make a point, it seems somone thought it a good idea to let the orchestra hit their instruments all at the same time and then throw them in the trash. Repeatedly. It really diverted the attention from the drama to the off-music, sometimes to the point where you lost track of what was happening. The worst effect/music choice I've come across so far in a give it a 5, because I think the other music was at least decent. But described sound/music was the beginning there was some plot, but it gradually became less and lost traction. Now even if new plot elements seem to plop up, I feel bored about them and don't bother investing comedic relief didn't work for me. Yunxi didn't have enough funny scenes to make up for it and I started to strongly dislike Tang Li's character, who seems to was supposed to be a comedic kept it flat. The plot doesn't really happen, it's quite often only talked about and without finesse - no suspense, compared to other It can't find itself solid ground. The reasons to develop a good romance between the leads are there, and yes, there are kiss scenes included up to episode 27 and I suppose "some right scenes". But the feelings don't carry at all. The second male lead? Nope. Unfortunately they gave him too much boring screen time in scences that lead to nothing is probably my biggest misfit with this drama I can't seem to invest emotions in any of the characters but Yunxi. And I really had to warm up to her first, too since I felt she had a forced entry. The male lead often doesn't do it for me. He seems too little involved with his surroundings and some of his decisions are not what I'd expect from a male hero, even controversial. Somehow he doesn't pop out, he just looks handsome, that's it. The characters stay superficial to where the story could build rapport with the characters and viewers are often lost, when the story cuts beginning threads of thoughts or character changes off or overtheatrically ridicules CAN'T TAKE THE CHARACTERS SERIOUSLY. Also, lots of characters are really dislikable to me for too long a period of time. It's not well balanced for me to really enjoy value Maybe only the kiss scenes in a fast compilation. The prospective dragging will likely keep me from trying to finish this More Was this review helpful to you? Ongoing 48/48 odetodramas0 people found this review helpful Story Acting/Cast Music Rewatch Value I recommend Legend of Yun Xi wholeheartedly for one major reason - I loved the main character, Yun Xi. Yun Xi is smart, brave, kind, and skilled with poisons. The strong female lead character that I've been waiting for! I thought the actress who played her, Ju Jing Yi, did a great job. However, I have what seems to be an unpopular opinion regarding the male lead actor. I thought Zhang Zhe Han's portrayal of Long Fei Ye was boring and wooden. For the most part, he might as well have been a cardboard cutout, and when he began to show some emotion it seemed inauthentic. I understand that his character is supposed to be cold and emotionless, but Zhang Zhe Yan's eyes looked lifeless! I was still rooting for the leads' romance, but solely because I loved Yun plot was fine until the last ~10 episodes where things became convoluted. I also admittedly skimmed through a lot of the emperor and harem parts, and some of the various princes' scenes, because clearly I was here for the romance. Aside from the lead couple, I enjoyed Ning Jing and Tang Li's storyline - maybe she was a little over-the-top at times but they were a funny and cute pair. I loved Xi Feng, because I can never resist a loyal right-hand man. I didn't care for Qi Shao either way, but I disliked him in the end when he tried to make Yun Xi's choice for of the ending, I have to say that I prefer the epilogue episode 50 version of the ending. I find the actual ending too contrived. Still, overall I loved this drama and I couldn't stop watching it! Read More Was this review helpful to you? The first 2/3 of this show were pretty decent overall, especially if you enjoy wuxia-style medical/alchemist type stories. The cast was good and the plot, though cliche, was interesting enough. During the last 1/3, however, the plot holes, excessive pathos, contrived melodrama, and over the top acting ruined most of the story for me except for the very end.Aside from the actual storytelling, there were also some technical nitpicks which I felt were distracting and dragged down the quality of the show *Too much camera shake during overly prolonged/bloody fight scenes *Unimpressive CGI *Amateur special effects makeup *A number of reused ambient scenes *Some thin/amateur sounding musical scoresHowever, if you don't mind a bit of "camp" with your kung fu, angst and intrigue, then this might be right up your alley! And on the bright side, it does have a happy ending, so there's RATING * * * 6/10. If you feel that a love story without an invested kiss is like an egg roll without the filling, then you are likely to leave this film feeling unsatisfied. As is typical with C-Dramas of this genre, there are few hugs 5+ and fewer kisses 3-4 chaste scenes, with lots of restrained emotion and no sexual tension. However, if pure love is your thing, then this will suit you to a T. 2 out of 2 found this helpful. Was this review helpful? Sign in to vote. Permalink
